A studio workshop with Barry Van Dusen in partnership with Mass Audubon Blue Hills Trailside Museum and The Visual Arts Center, This full-day indoor workshop will focus on BIRDS, and the methods artists use to depict them with drawing tools and paint. At the Trailside Museum, we will have access to LIVE BIRD MODELS - a rare opportunity Well start with some basic drawing exercises, followed by a discussion of avian structure and anatomy - exploring ways of seeing, understanding and interpreting the birds form. Through follow-along drawing demos, well explore the variety of birdlife, with lots of practical drawing tips. Barry will also describe his field methods and demonstrate how he uses optics to work from live birds in the field. After working on our basic drawing skills, and doing some drawings from photographs, well tackle drawing the live bird models at Trailside. The owls and hawks are very good models, and should allow beginners a great opportunity to get their feet wet with live birds If time allows, we will use some simple watercolor washes to give our drawings an added sense of light and drama Registration is required.
